“What are you guys selling?” the woman with the colorful jumpsuit asked. “We don’t sell anything. We do photography,” my hubby, Alex replied.
The woman seemed confused so, we explained…
In this post, you’ll learn a little bit more about my amazing husband and head photographer, Alex, and I. You’ll get nuggets about how we got our start and how it makes Gibson Family Photography different.
My husband Alex and I were born on opposite ends of the country. I’m a native Californian and he is a native New Jerseyan. We met in college our Freshman year and it was love at first sight! SIKE! NOT. AT. ALL. We were frenemies for three years until God told us to lay down our flags to get to know each other better. We got married in 2016 and Georgia is our home where we’re raising two beautiful little ones.
It’s wild to think of how different our stories are but how God brought us together for a mission and a major part of our mission is Gibson Family Photography, LLC.
Alex grew up with very little in a city where poverty is normal and college was a distant dream. As the first college graduate in his family, Alex dared to dream again.
His family never could afford a family portrait session and lost many of the photos that they had as they moved from place to place. His family never had a professional photo taken until we took them ourselves in March 2020.
I’m grateful that now my in-laws have the same joy of seeing the smiles of their children and grandchildren grace their walls with their presence. I only wish they had the opportunity to have that sooner.
Alex desired for not only his family to have professional photos that shared the beautiful details of his family but for other families to have the luxury of having quality photos that could stand the test of time.
I wholeheartedly agreed that this was an important mission. I come from a blended family of eight, and as I look back at the department store photos we took as a family over the years, I remember feeling included when we would all get color coordinated, stand slightly leaned over the sibling next to us and smile at the camera.
Those photos still decorate the walls and china cabinets of my parents’ house. They tell our story.
Alex and I began our business in 2018 with a camera and a thought. Someone from our church had gifted Alex with a Nikon camera. Alex had dabbled into photography by taking nature pictures here and there but hadn’t thought of making it into much more than an occasional hobby. The gentleman that gave him the camera told Alex that he believed in his potential.
Has anyone ever believed you could do something before you did? How inspiring it is to have someone sow a seed into your life because he or she sees something in you that you haven’t seen yet.
Alex began to build his craft by taking photos of friends and family. Along the way, he continued to improve and developed a heart for making people smile.
As a former model, I naturally wanted to learn and teach all things posing during our sessions. I begged Alex to let me go with him to shoots, and one day, he finally caved.
We both continue to grow and learn from mentors to create the best portrait experiences for our clients. Whether it’s creating a “What to Wear Guide” or the Full-Service opportunity we give our clients, we are always looking for ways to make it even better. We learn from the feedback of our clients as they give verbal and written reviews, like the ones on Google.
We birthed Gibson Family Photography out of the belief that families need to document their lives through photos because photos can be shared for generations to come. How else will great-grandchildren relive the moments of their great-grandparents, grandparents and parents? Photos are pictures that illustrate the stories of our lives.
For that reason, we’re photographers, not salespeople. We are a Full-Service Photography company that may not be for everyone but for the families, Seniors and couples who are searching for the opportunity to partner with us to share the unique stories they’re living, we’re the perfect fit. That’s the difference between Gibson Family Photography and all the rest.
With Love, The Gibsons!
